Messaging & Communication

Oak has built-in chat for all communication — between users, within groups and clubs, and with guides. No need to switch to WhatsApp or other platforms.

How to message another user

Everyone on Oak can message any other user directly.

  1. Go to the user's profile.
  2. Tap Message.
  3. Write your message and send. You'll be notified when they reply.

If someone is bothering you, you can block them at any time (see below).

How to use group and activity chats

  1. Open the group, club, or activity.
  2. Tap the Chat tab or icon.
  3. All members can participate in the chat. Clubs may have multiple chat channels organised by topic.
  4. You can mute a chat from the menu if you want to stop receiving notifications.

How to report or block a user

  1. Go to the user's profile (or find them in a chat).
  2. Tap the menu.
  3. Select Report to flag inappropriate behaviour — you'll be asked to describe the issue.
  4. Select Block to instantly prevent the user from messaging you or seeing your content.
  5. Oak's moderation team will review reports and take action in line with the Community Guidelines.
