Communities (Groups)
In Oak, communities are discoverable through the Explore tab under Communities. They're open spaces for people who share an interest in a particular activity, location, or mountain destination — think "Chamonix Ski
Touring" or "Oslo Climbing."
How to discover and browse communities
You can find communities in several ways:
- For You — personalised recommendations.
- Popular — the most active communities on Oak.
- Nearby — communities close to your location.
- New — recently created communities.
You can also search for communities via the map view.
How to join a community
- Find a community you're interested in.
- Tap Join.
- Once you've joined, you'll see the community's activities and chat.
How to create a new community
- Tap Create Group.
- Fill in:
- Name
- Description — what the community is about, who it's for.
- Activity focus — the main sports this community is centred around.
- Location — the area the community is based in (optional).
- Cover photo (optional).
3. Tap Create.
How to manage your community
- Open your community and tap Settings or the menu.
- From here you can:
- Edit the name, description, or cover photo.
- Add other members as admins — admins can approve/decline join requests and have full edit rights over the group.
- Remove members.
How to leave a community
- Open the community.
- Tap the menu.
- Tap Leave Group and confirm.
