Oak is hosting 70 social events in July!

A social event is a meet-up that is super easy to join and attend. For example, something like a simple crag afterwork with no minimum climbing skill level, or a pre-work 5k run in the city, or even just watching the World Cup together with fellow mountain people. Low barrier, wide open — that's the whole point.

No such thing as "not good enough" — that's the point of this whole campaign! It can often feel scary to commit to joining Oak activities as a beginner, but we promise, having attended many social events ourselves, it doesn't matter if you are only learning to climb, or if you are a slow runner, or whatever other worry you can think of. Everyone started somewhere.

An observed behaviour we frequently see in the Oak community is that there ARE people around you — but everyone is just waiting for one person to take the first move. If you create a friendly, open, community event, you may be surprised at how many people are suddenly in-app, wanting to join. So please help us by creating one in your area!

No worries! Either try again (sometimes it takes a little time for people to notice a new event), or you can contact us for help — and maybe we can put some effort into advertising Oak in your area.

Attending social events is the absolute best way to do this. It's a great opportunity to meet people who you can later organise proper days out with — once you've got the measure of each other in a relaxed setting, committing to a bigger adventure is so much easier.
