Be prepared for when things don’t go as planned. This hands-on course introduces essential self-rescue techniques for climbers operating on multi-pitch and trad routes. Through realistic scenarios and practical exercises, you will learn how to manage common climbing emergencies—such as assisting an injured leader, helping a second who cannot continue, or safely evacuating a partner from the wall. The course focuses on building confidence, decision-making, and efficiency in high-stress situations. Emphasis is placed on simple, reliable systems that can be applied in real environments with the gear you already carry. Over two full days outdoors, participants will cover key skills including rescue-ready anchor systems, escaping the belay, rope ascending using friction hitches, lowering and rappelling with an injured climber, load transfers between systems, basic hauling techniques, and controlled lowering using guide-mode belay devices.
• Guides on Oak are verified by Oak, but users should independently confirm a guide’s qualifications.
