Oak Course
Location
Saint-Gervais-les-Bains
Estimated Duration
1 Day
Group size
1-1 participants
Climbing the Mont Blanc (4,810 m) in a single day, from the valley to the summit and back, with no night in a refuge and no lift assistance. This is one of the most demanding one-day mountaineering challenges in the Alps: a sustained, continuous effort of around 3,800 m of ascent and descent in one push. Why this challenge: Most Mont Blanc ascents are spread over 2 to 5 days with a night at altitude to acclimatise. The One Shot strips that away entirely, it is a pure test of fitness, pace and mental endurance, for climbers who already know the mountain and want to push themselves against the clock rather than against technical difficulty. Who it's for: Very experienced, highly trained mountaineers only. You should already have climbed Mont Blanc or an equivalent high-altitude objective, be acclimatised to altitude, and be able to sustain a continuous effort of 12+ hours at a fast pace. This is not a first ascent of Mont Blanc. Conditions: Weather and route conditions are checked closely in the days before, since there is no fallback night at a hut if the pace slips. The date may be moved if conditions are not right.
• Mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet; light and fast alpine clothing system, waterproof shell; headlamp with spare batteries; high-energy food and enough water for a long effort; sun protection
* Early start from the valley, before dawn * Continuous ascent via the standard route, no overnight stop * Summit of Mont Blanc (4,810 m) * Continuous descent back to the valley the same day * Total effort: approx. 3,800 m of ascent and descent
