2 days basic avalanche course taught in the mountains nearby Tromsø by IFMGA aspirant guide and NF Skredinstruktør Hilde Røkenes. The goal of the course is to increase participants' awareness of the factors that influence avalanche hazard and to provide the knowledge and skills needed to travel as safely as possible in potentially avalanche-prone terrain. The course covers topics such as avalanche hazard assessment, trip planning, route selection, travel techniques, and companion rescue using avalanche transceivers. The course is highly practical, taught and practiced in the field. Participants will learn to: • Recognize avalanche hazards through an understanding of weather, snow conditions, terrain, and human factors • Manage avalanche risk through sound route choices and appropriate behavior in the field • Perform an effective companion rescue in the event of an avalanche accident
• Alpine touring skis (randonnée setup) or a splitboard
• Avalanche transceiver

• Route selection and terrain assessment • Group travel techniques and spacing • Factors affecting snowpack stability • Use and interpretation of avalanche forecasts • Snowpack and snow science basics • Group dynamics and risk management • Map reading and orientation • Companion rescue techniques using avalanche transceivers, probe, and shovel

IFMGA Aspirant Guide
I’m dedicated to climbing and skiing, with some mountain biking and paragliding on the side. I am an avalanche instructor and IFMGA aspirant in Norway. Main area is Tromsø, but with a fair amount of time in Chamonix. I speak Norwegian, English, bad French and some Spanish. Climbing grade 7a ish on sport and 6c ish on trad. Ski tour 50-100 days a season, all kinds of objectives. Ice/mix medium experienced, but should be able to lead WI5 and M5 in descent conditions. Climbing for 15 years +, skiing since I could walk. Paragliding on and off since 3 years with around 200 flights, 35 hours. IPPI4 certification.
