Guided off-piste skiing in St Anton uses the huge Arlberg lift network to reach incredible terrain across St Anton, Stuben, Zürs and Lech. The guide picks the area on the day according to snow stability and visibility, from gentle introductory powder fields to committing steep descents.
What the course usually involves▼
The Arlberg gets more snow than almost anywhere in the Alps, and has incredible terrain to go with it. St Anton, St Christoph, Stuben, Zürs, Lech and Warth are linked on one lift pass, covering every aspect across two valleys and a pass.
A local IFGMA guide knows exactly which corners of the area will be in good condition. For example: after a storm the Stuben side holds the coldest north-facing snow. The wide bowls above Lech and Zürs are often quiet and untouched. The Valluga and Schindler sectors give the steepest, most committing descents in the region. And Rendl, quieter and more open, is where a lot of people ski their first proper off-piste.
If you are looking for something more advanced: some descents involve a short bootpack or a traverse to reach untracked ground.
Transceiver, shovel and probe every day is required: they can be rented, but ideally you have avalanche skills and knowledge for steeper descents. If not, guides can help you learn through skiing more friendly terrain.

Location context▼
The Arlberg lift network links St Anton, St Christoph, Stuben, Zürs, Lech and Warth across two valleys and a pass, giving access to a very large area covering all aspects. It is one of the snowiest regions in the Alps and the birthplace of modern alpine ski technique.
Rendl, on the south side of St Anton, offers quieter open terrain well suited to a first off-piste day. Stuben is north-facing and holds the coldest snow. The Valluga and Schindler sectors give the steepest descents. Lech, Zürs and Warth over the Flexen pass provide wide bowls that often ski well when the St Anton side has been scoured.
The season runs December to April, with reliable cover from mid-December.
