Planned Tour: Strahlhorn and Allalinhorn Ascents Dates: Arrival on Friday, May 22, or early morning Saturday, May 23 Start Point: Mattmark parking (Saas-Almagell) Ascent to Britannia Hut After arrival, the ascent follows the marked trail from Mattmark up to the Britanniahütte. -Elevation gain: ~800 m -Duration: 2–3 hours -Accommodation: Winter room of the Britanniahütte This will serve as the basecamp for both summit attempts. Early-season conditions should be expected on both the approach and around the hut. Schedule & Conditions Summit attempts for Strahlhorn and Allalinhorn are planned within the window Sunday, May 20 – Tuesday, May 26. Start time: Around 02:00 In early-season conditions, glaciers soften noticeably after ~10:00, increasing the risk of breaking through snow bridges and raising avalanche danger during late morning and afternoon. The goal is to climb both peaks if conditions, stability, and energy levels allow. If weather or snow conditions deteriorate, the decision will shift toward completing only one of the two (priority based on safety and feasibility). Alternative Activities If conditions prevent summit attempts on certain days: -Britannia via ferrata -Short acclimatization or training tours around the hut Strahlhorn From Britanniahütte cross the upper Hohlaub Glacier to Allalin Pass. Continue over the wide Allalin Glacier to Adler Pass. From there follow gentle, broad slopes southeast to the summit dome and ascend the final snow ramp to the top. Key risks: early-season crevasses and soft snow after mid-morning. Total: 6–8 h. Allalinhorn From Britanniahütte traverse the Hohlaub Glacier toward the Hohlaub Ridge or directly toward Feejoch. The classic route heads to Feejoch, then follows the broad, moderately steep west-facing slope to the summit. Watch for crevasses and hard early-season snow on the traverse. Total: 4–6 h
