**Who is this for?** This course is for anyone aiming to get into Off Piste skiing/snowboarding or ski touring/splitboarding (backcountry skiing). This course alone will set you up to be valued participant in a guided group and give you the basics to move onto further training if you plan to head out into backcountry terrain without a guide. This 1 day course is designed to help you safely transition from on piste skiing to off piste skiing or for someone who has never had any formal avalanche training. If you are looking to get deeper into the backcountry (more technical off piste runs or ski touring/ ski mountaineering) you will need additional training after this course (E.g Avalanche progression 1 day Course + Backcountry Tour Planning and Safety 1 day course). This course is also a good opportunity to understand the equipment you will need to buy if you don’t already own it. **What’s covered?** - Introduction to avalanche safety and rescue echniques. - Introduction to avalanche safety equipment. - Basic terrain management and group management (on mountain). - Basic rescue techniques (use of transceiver shovel and probe in avalanche park) **Requirements** - Ability to ski european Red Slopes in resort with control. - Ability to be out in the mountains for the full day without needing to use indoor facilities. - Equipment: You will need to provide your ski’s / splitboard and a suitable backpack to carry avalanche equipment (avalanche shovel and probe).
